[Prayers for ourselves and others]
Lord God,
We pray for your church. From the outside we can look so splintered. There are so many denominations, congregations, groups, leaders and committees. Help us to recognise all that, as your people, we have in common – our love for you, the forgiveness we have been given and our concern for the people of this world. Even though we sometimes disagree on everything else, may we work together to spread your kingdom.
We pray for the UK government. Now the election is over and the deals are done, help those elected at all levels to put political squabbling aside and to work for the good of the people. There are difficult decisions to be made. Show our leaders the right thing to do and give them the courage to go through with it. Give them the wisdom to know where resources are really needed, so that all may share in freedom and justice.
Lord God, in our own daily lives, keep calling us back to you. Guide us in what we should do and help us to be the people you truly want us to be. Speak to us through the Bible. Speak to us through those around us. Speak to us.
May we hear your whispered words through the turmoil. Cut through work and chatter and the TV and the slow, steady ticking of the clock. Open our ears and our hearts.
Lord God, you have promised your kingdom to the poor, satisfaction to the hungry and laughter to those who weep. That can be both heartening and a little scary. Thank you that you bring justice and healing. Show us how we can be part of it.
All of us know those who are facing difficulties, whether illness, grief, loneliness or hardship. We take a minute to pray in silence for those dear to each one of us...
Thank you, Lord God, that you have shown yourself to us through your son. Thank you that he is still with us and fills us with your love. Help us to share that love whenever and wherever we can.
In your name,
Amen.
GREAT prayer! And could be said by me here in Texas, along with anyone here in the US. We all pray for the same...Psalms 50:15

ReplyDeleteYes, our urgency and perspective can be affected by our situation but ultimately we're all after the same thing: '...Your kingdom come, Your will be done...'
